Strengthening the

Specialist recruitment for the Governance, Risk and Compliance professionals who protect our communities.

People-First Governance
Meet the Founder - Daniel Stevens

A one-man business built on high-care, honest and attentive recruitment.

With over twelve years’ experience supporting social housing and public sector organisations, I’m passionate about helping providers stay compliant, manage risk effectively, and keep residents safe in their homes.

As the sole director of a specialist recruitment agency, I bring a hands-on, personal approach to governance, risk and compliance recruitment and advisory. I work with organisations to place the professionals who make a real difference, whether through permanent appointments, interim support, contract roles or retained search.

My focus is simple: connecting trusted organisations with the right people to strengthen compliance, improve governance and support safer homes for residents.

Proven Impact

In social housing, the right appointment does more than fill a role: it keeps organisations compliant and residents safe in their homes. With regulation tightening since Grenfell and Awaab’s Law, that has never mattered more. Here is some of our recent work.

Interim Head of Governance & Company Secretary

Interim & Contract  |  Social Housing

Urgent governance leadership needed ahead of a regulatory inspection, with no room to get it wrong.

Key Achievements:
  1. Specialist shortlist delivered at pace
  2. Inspection readiness strengthened
  3. Interim converted into a permanent hire

Director of Governance & Assurance

Retained Search | Social Housing

A board-level appointment in a thin talent market, run discreetly from search through to offer.

Key Achievements:
  1. Passive, off-market candidates engaged
  2. High-calibre shortlist presented
  3. Long-term leadership secured

Interim Governance Team

Interim & Contract  |  Social Housing

A full interim team built fast to steady governance after a regulatory downgrade.

Key Achievements:
  1. Multi-level team deployed quickly
  2. Governance held steady through restructure
  3. Faster response to the regulator’s recommendations

“What they
have to say...”

Director of People & Culture,
G15 Housing Association

“Working with Daniel felt like a partnership, not a transaction. He understood that we weren't just looking for a 'Compliance Officer,' but a person who could lead with empathy and protect our residents' interests. His deep connection to the social housing sector meant he found someone who fit our culture perfectly."

Head of Risk & Assurance,
National Governing Body

"In the world of high-stakes regulation, you need hires with no surprises. Because Daniel operates within such a tightly connected network, our new Governance lead came highly recommended by peers we already trust. It made the entire hiring process faster and significantly more secure."

Chief Executive Officer,
UK Charity Sector

"James Stevens Associates has a unique ability to keep regulators calm by finding the exact right talent for the job. Their honesty and attention to detail during a difficult interim period allowed our board to focus on strategic decisions while knowing our compliance was in safe hands."

Executive Director of Governance,
25,000-Home Housing Association

“The ability to rapidly access experienced governance professionals during such a complex period was hugely valuable. The interim team brought stability, expertise and flexibility exactly when the organisation needed it most.”
